GOOD SUCTION LINE DESIGN & PUMP EFFICIENCY
TURBULENT FLOW IN PUMP SUCTION LINES
Suction pipe layout is as important as the pump itself. Turbulence and skewed velocity profiles at the pump inlet will result in poor energy performance and premature failure.
Liquid flowing through the suction side of the pump must be free of turbulence and have a uniform velocity profile to avoid dynamic loading on the pump impeller.
LOSS OF EFFICIENCY DUE TO POOR HYDRAULIC LOADING OF IMPELLER
The lack of due diligence in this sensitive area of the piping often causes severe hydraulic and mechanical failures, resulting in energy losses.
Loading the impeller with non-uniform velocity distribution reduces the energy performance of the system and leads to instability and increased vibration levels.

RECOMMENDED SUCTION PIPE DESIGN
The suction piping system is critical to pump performance, efficiency, and reliability. Poor design can introduce swirl, turbulence, and uneven flow, leading to cavitation, vibration, and premature wear.
CEN/TR 13932 and HI 9.6.6 provide essential guidelines for optimal suction pipe design, emphasizing:
- •Straight suction pipe requirements (typically 5–10 pipe diameters) to stabilize flow and prevent swirl.
- •Minimizing turbulence to reduce hydraulic losses, vibration, and cavitation risk.
By following these standards, engineers ensure energy-efficient, reliable pump operation.

FLOW CONDITIONING DEVICES
When site conditions or floor space do not allow for the recommended straight pipe lengths, flow conditioners must be used to mitigate turbulence.
Our Hydro Diffusers act as effective flow conditioners, correcting skewed velocity profiles even in tight spaces, safeguarding your infrastructure.
RECLAIM PRECIOUS FLOOR SPACE IN YOUR PLANT ROOM
Using conventional elbows and strainers requires significant floor space to accommodate straight piping after the fittings.
The Hydro Diffuser combines these functions into one compact unit, allowing for direct installation at the pump inlet and saving up to 60% of required space.
A FASTER, CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE TO WELDED PIPE CONNECTIONS
Traditional welded connections are time-consuming and require skilled labor. Mechanical coupling systems provide a more efficient alternative.
Our solutions reduce system downtime and project costs by simplifying the assembly of complex piping networks without compromising durability.
ADAPT YOUR PIPEWORK TO SITE CONDITIONS WITHOUT COMPROMISING PERFORMANCE
Modular design allows technical teams to rapidly adjust to on-site constraints that were not visible on the initial CAD drawings.
Maintain peak efficiency even in non-ideal environments with our range of adaptable suction intake solutions engineered for critical systems.
